During the healing process God took me through, He gave me this Scripture: 1 Peter 5:10. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while*, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
This wasn’t exactly the type of Scripture I wanted to hear. I would have much preferred some of the many blessing Scriptures in the Bible. But no, this is what God gave me. So as not to dwell too much on the “suffering” part of it, I decided to study what “stablish, strengthen and settle” meant. Even though I had to go through the “suffering” part, the rest of the Scripture gave me hope and something to hold onto and look forward to.
…who hath called you … Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
… into His eternal glory…2 Corinthians 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
… after that ye have suffered a while … 1 Peter 1:6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
… make you perfect…Hebrews 13:21; Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. … Psalm 18:32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. Also 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17; 16. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 17. Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
Perfect in the Greek means to complete thoroughly, repair or adjust, fit, frame, mend, make perfect (ly- join together), prepare, restore. Stablish means to set fast; to fix firmly; to render immovable. Strengthen means bodily vigor, confirm in spiritual knowledge and power. Settle means something put down, foundation, a basis for, ground, settle.
After studying this Scripture I pray it will help as God takes you through the “suffering”, helping you to know there is something good waiting for you on the other side of this. God has called each of us, having a plan for us. But in order to prepare us, He will take us through a time of testing and through the refiners fire, to purify us and make us perfect in His sight.
If you will stick with Him, and allow Him to take you through, He will bring you through whatever storm you are in. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He loves you. God has truly brought me through a lot of storms. Look into His Word and you will find whatever it is that you need to strengthen you, to make you strong, firm and steadfast. That’s a promise. (Strong (strengthen)” means able to endure, firm, solid, well fortified, having wealth or resources, healthy, having great physical power, having great vigor, forcible, energetic. To fortify means to strengthen against attack; to impart vigor or endurance, to confirm (a statement). Vigor means active strength, physical force, vital strength, strength of mind. Firm means strong, not easily moved or disturbed, unshaken, resolute, decided. Steadfast means not easily moved or firmly fixed or established, firm, constant, resolute. Resolute means having a fixed purpose, constant in pursuing a purpose, determined.
In other words, He will make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
